On Saturday 29th September, Stroud & District AC will be taking over the Stonehouse Parkrun at Oldends playing field.

For those of you that don’t know what Parkrun is – it’s a free 5km timed run that takes place every Saturday at 9am all over the UK (and other parts of the world as well). It is organised and run by volunteers – at Stonehouse a team of at least 10 volunteers each week are needed to make the run happen. You can register for Parkrun here – you need a barcode to be able to see your results on the Parkrun website and to volunteer. Once you have done this all you need to do is turn up at your chosen Parkrun and enjoy the run. (or volunteer)

What is a Parkrun Takeover?

Our Club will be providing all the volunteers and having as many runners as possible turn up to run on Saturday 29th September. It is an opportunity for us to promote our Club and the local Parkrun giving something back to our community.

Whats involved?

Stonehouse Parkrun needs at least 10 volunteers to marshal, time the run and carry out other roles. We are also looking to put on pacers aiming to help others reach target times, e.g. 30 minutes, 28 mins etc. As a volunteer you would need to be there from about 08:30 until the end of the run normally about 10am. Once all the roles are filled, turning up to run in our Greeen Stroud tops would be awesome as well.

What roles are available on the day?

Stonehouse Parkrun has the following roles available and full training is given on the day by the Core team for any new volunteers. Marshals (up to 6), Timekeepers x2, Barcode scanners x2, Finish Tokens x2, Tail Walker, Pre event setup and then we can also have pacers at any speeds but ideally from 20 mins to 35 mins pace. Full details of volunteering at Parkrun are available here.

How do I get involved?

Make sure that you have signed up for Parkrun (click here if needed), opt in for volunteering, and then let us know that you want to help by either using the contact form at the bottom of the page, posting a comment on the Facebook post or letting Ian Cutler, John Tierney or Alan Price know. Ian will then be organising the rosta and confirming nearer the time who is doing what.

Can I just run it?

Yes of course – just turn up on the day having registered and enjoy the run. If you have a Stroud AC top do wear it as we would like as many green tops out there as possible.
