Tom Mortimer was selected for the best England Athletics men's endurance runner award for the South West Counties for 2017/18 the award was presented at the annual South West Counties Athletics dinner and presentation evening held in Exeter on Saturday 29th September. Unfortunately due to Loughborough University study commitment he was unable to attend, also he missed the Stroud and District AC annual award evening on the Friday evening.
Tom’s Coach Chris Brown said “Tom is now 19 and has competes in the junior ranks at U20 this year, he has run the 2nd fastest 5000m time in the South West counties this year, but even so it was quite a surprise for Tom to win the senior men award for which he is really pleased and honoured to have been recognised in this manner and at a senior level. Tom has only competed in the senior ranks at the Midlands road relays (which includes the SW Counties) last September where he ran the 3rd fastest leg of the championships. In the Juniors Tom is the UK cross country champion, and represented England and Great Britain last winter. In the summer Tom was the fastest 5000m runner in the U20 age group by some way dropping under 14 min. Tom in the summer also represented the Great Britain U20 teams at the World Championships in Finland, and at all other GB internationals
