Tom Mortimer, after running the previous two weekends for the Great Britain team in Edinburgh and leading the England team to victory in Seville six days earlier, gave an exhibition of running in Nottingham to retain the U20 men's title that he won last year in Loughborough. Expecting a tough race, he set off strongly going to the front of the race at a good pace. He tested the field early by surging up the first hill to open a 40m lead and then relaxed and ran within himself as he glided away to an emphatic victory by nearly 60s. Tom’s young team mates who have just moved out of the U17 age group ran hard over the longer 8k course to deliver a team silver medal.
Silver medal team: 1st Tom Mortimer, 19th Jerome Boyd, 26th Thomas Bury, 34th Freddie Wilson.
Tom will race in Belgium now before taking on the National Cross Country Championship at Parliament Hill in London on the 24th February, followed by a period of altitude training in March before the track season starts in April.
