March 2018

Cleevewold 14 Race Results - Sunday 25th March 2018

Two Stroud runners took part in the Cleevewold race on Sunday. It is a tough and hilly 14 mile multi-terrain race held annually in March. The race starts near to race HQ at the medieval Postlip tithe barn and covers the highest points of the Cotswold hills on Cleeve common, before heading into the countryside and returning to Postlip via the Belas Knap neolithic burial mound.

Welsh Castles Relay - June 9/10

Our place in this year's relay has been confirmed, so we can get on with organising our team and training! We need 20 runners, 10 for each day and ideally a couple of reserves in case of any last minute injuries etc. We run this event for the joy of competing as a mixed team and Alan Pitt has already booked a cottage in mid-Wales to assist with overnight accommodation for some of the team. The race starts in Caernarfon Sat 9th, takes an overnight stop in mid-Wales before finishing in Cardiff on Sun 10th.

Minchinhampton 10K Race Report

Minch 10k runners

Minchinhampton was ablaze with the green, red and blue colours of Stroud and District Athletic Club on Sunday as a large number of our athletes took part in the annual 10K race.  The undulating course clearly suited our runners.  With four people in the top twenty and lots of PB’s our hill training is certainly paying dividends when it comes to hilly races.

2018 UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships

Tom Mortimer, representing Gloucestershire, has made history by winning the first U20 Inter-Counties title for Gloucestershire in the 92 years this event has been staged. Tom won comfortably by 21 seconds leading from the front and setting the pace from the start.
Cheltenham's George Watson was next home for Glos in 43rd, and the young Stroud & District AC runners (who have just moved up from the U17 age group) closed the team with Thomas Bury in 126th, and Freddie Wilson in 135th. A great performance from our lads.
